|01:37 am - New Orleans, Day Four|
On the one hand, today was kind of quiet, in that we didn't go anywhere far from the hotel. On the other hand, we saw parades. We grabbed lunch at a nearby deli, which Mary wasn't entirely impressed by, but that's okay, it was all part of the experience.
Saw four parades today, two in the afternoon, two at night. Ironically, the later ones weren't as HOLY CRAP IT'S COLD as the afternoon ones. We caught many beads and other trinkets. My favorite part was during the first parade, when the US Marine Corp Reserve Marching Band stopped right underneath our section of the stands for a good twenty minutes and just performed... they have an AMAZING jazz section that went to town with all kinds of joy and energy.
My hat goes off to all the many, many marching bands, dance teams, cheerleader squads and so forth that were out there, stolidly plodding through the cold and mist... and still managing to smile, dance, perform, wave, cheer, and entertain along the way. They had to have been freezing, but still, they managed. Rock on.
After it was all over, we carted our haul back upstairs and collapsed, after some 5 hours combined standing around outside cheering our asses off for the parades.
I love Mardi Gras.
